Saunas

The sauna with all it's traditions has a special place in our hearts

The sauna with all it's traditions has a special place in our hearts. The steady increase in the popularity of saunas is a sign of the times : more and more people are taking their health and well-being seriously.

The sauna has become a natural part of everyday life, integrated into our balanced and wholistic lifestyles. A haven in the home where family and friends can meet to relax after a work-out in the gym ... a refuge where you can unwind at the end of a long, hard day.

Saunas relax your muscles and refresh your mind. First the quivering heat, the sizzle of cold water sprinkled over hot stones and then wave after wave of hot air gently massaging it's way into your skin. Round it off with an invigorating shower - and afterwards you feel like a new person in body and soul.

A sauna must be able to cope with both dry heat and clouds of steam. Sauna King saunas are built for all kinds of bathing - dry saunas, wet saunas, steam saunas (Tylarium) and herbal saunas.

So sauna timbers need to have special qualities to withstand these extremes: from high-tempratures and a low relative humidity under 10% to the more temperature climate of a steam sauna with 70% humidity at 45C.

Sauna King uses close-grained, Scandinavian spruce in its factory-produced saunas. It is a first-class timber, dense and with a surface that can cope with both heat and high humidity.

Alternatively, if you prefer, Sauna King also makes saunas in Cedarwood, or in the time-honoured, old-fashioned way with sturdy logs. Benches, duckboard and backrests are manufactured of low density timbers such as American Basswood or Western Red Cedar.

Traditional sauna bathing (dry and wet saunas)

Every sauna starts with a shower. Afterwards, scrubbed clean and armed with a towel to sit on, inside the sauna. Every now and again you ladle water over the hot stones, setting the air quivering with heat feeling how the warmth penetrates deep into your skin.

When you have begun to perspire, it is time for another visit to the shower. Now your pores are open and you can wash yourself really clean. Then you return to the sauna, where you can relax and unwind, emerging now and then only to cool down with an invigorating shower.

Wet saunas are enjoyed at tempratures of between 75C and 90C, in a relative humidity of 20-35%. If you prefer a dry sauna and do not sprinkle water over the stones, the humidity is only 5-10% and you can increase the temperature above 90C. Tylo sauna heaters are the right choice for aficionados of traditional sauna bathing.
